About the Journal

The IFEMED Journal is an annual, peer-reviewed publication that explores pressing healthcare issues in Nigeria. Since our inception in 1976, we’ve published themed editions on malaria, maternal health, infectious diseases, mental health, emergency medicine, and critical care.  We have expanded our reach and visibility across the African continent by regaining our indexing status on the African Journals Online (AJOL). But we don’t stop at publishing. We are deeply committed to translating knowledge into impact. Through national essay competitions, symposia, and public lectures, we create platforms where students and professionals engage in meaningful conversations that shape the future of healthcare in Nigeria and beyond.

Our editorial board, patrons, and peer reviewers have distinguished themselves as leaders in medicine, research, and policy. Notable among them are Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo; Prof. John Okeniyi, Chief Medical Director of the OAU Teaching Hospitals Complex; and Dr. Seye Abimbola, a globally renowned health systems researcher and the founding Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Global Health. Through our work, we aim to empower young healthcare professionals, inspire thought leadership, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s evolving medical landscape
